iPhone, not Apple Maps
Pulse is behind schedule and we're holding. The startup orthodoxy says ship and learn — and it's mostly right. But the iPhone was an incomplete product too. There are two ways to be incomplete, and only one of them is survivable in a regulated profession where reputation is the distribution channel.

Performance management starts before the dashboard
Flowzi is meant to become the engine of an agency, and a leader will rightly expect it to show them how the team is performing — for efficiency and for planning. That visibility is baked into the core. But the dashboard is the easy part. The hard part starts at recruitment and lives in the one-on-one, and no amount of data does it for you.

Self-describing all the way down
Two questions I get asked separately — how do we use AI to build Pulse, and how does Pulse use AI for the agency — turn out to have the same answer. Both run on one move: make the system describe itself, then keep a human on the trigger. A note on what that looks like in practice, without the parts we'd rather keep.

When the leaders say slow down
Anthropic wants the option to pause the frontier. Nadella wants value pushed out to every firm. They look like different arguments — they're really the same fight over who holds the reins, and both happen to recommend the world that pays them. Where that leaves Flowzi.

More than paperwork
Migration isn't just movement. Every application carries a real human story — and the work that supports them is far more than paperwork.

Building inside the workflow, not adjacent to it
The Pulse thesis came from a year of consulting inside an active immigration agency, not from a year of researching the industry from outside. What that distinction is actually buying us.
